Why Ajax

Ajax is dense, dual-income and busy.

Ajax has changed a lot in 15 years. The west end is now dense, dual-income and full of professionals doing T4 work in Toronto with consulting practices on the side. The Westney and Salem corridors are full of owner-operated small services, retail and professional practices. There's a real cluster of small medical, dental and physio clinics worth a column on this page on its own. And the housing market has produced a generation of first-time landlords with one or two rentals.

We've been working with Ajax clients across those segments since 2009. Less guesswork on what you can claim. Better answers on whether to incorporate. And a real CPA, CA on your file every year.

What we handle

The full picture for your year.

Personal tax, corporate tax, bookkeeping, payroll and advisory under one roof. One firm, one point of contact, one set of advice that lines up across your personal and business returns.

Personal tax (T1)

Filed correctly with all the layers handled: T4, side business, rentals, investment income.

Side-business & sole-prop tax

HST registration, home office, vehicle and the income piece all done together.

Corporate tax (T2)

For incorporated owners. Filed on time with planning baked in for next year.

Rental & investment income

Net rental, capital gains, dividends and T1135 if you've got foreign holdings.

Monthly bookkeeping

Reconciled to your bank and your invoicing every month so year-end is a fast close.

Incorporation & comp planning

Whether to incorporate, when, and how to pay yourself once you do.

Built for Ajax

Where we add the most value.

Four common Ajax client profiles, and where our work tends to make the biggest difference.

01

Toronto-commuter professionals with side practices

T4 from a Toronto employer plus consulting, freelance or side-business income. We coordinate the personal return across both sides: HST registration when relevant, side-business deductions, RRSP room interacting with employer pension, stock options if there are any.

02

Westney and Salem corridor small businesses

Independent retail, restaurants, services and professionals along the main Ajax corridors. Corporate side, payroll, HST and bookkeeping: one firm, one fee, one contact.

03

Small medical, dental and physio clinics

Solo and small group health practitioners across Ajax. Personal returns and Professional Corporation T2s planned together. College share-ownership rules respected, hygienist and associate classification documented properly.

04

First-time Ajax landlords

If you've bought a rental in Ajax in the last few years, you're not alone, and you're probably missing a few deductions you're entitled to. We set up the rental schedule properly and help you make the CCA call deliberately.

Who we work with

Three kinds of Ajax clients.

Toronto commuters with side income or rentals

T4 workers with consulting work or a rental on the side. We file the layered T1 cleanly and advise on whether to incorporate the side business.

Owner-operated businesses on Westney and Salem

Independent retail, services and professionals. Personal + corporate + bookkeeping handled together.

Medical and dental practitioners

Solo and small group clinics. We coordinate the Personal + PC return with the College's Professional Corporation rules in mind.

EK CPA Pro is owner-operated. When you call, you're talking to the CPA, CA who's actually doing the work, not a junior who hands the file off at year-end. Elena has been working with owner-operated businesses across Durham Region since 2009, and is a graduate of CPA Canada's In-Depth Tax Program.

How we meet

How meetings work for Ajax clients.

Our office is at 70 Taunton Road East in Whitby, about 10 minutes from most Ajax addresses. You pick the format that fits your week. Most year-round check-ins happen by video; year-end and tax-strategy meetings are usually in person if you prefer.

In-person at our Whitby office

70 Taunton Road East, Whitby. Free parking on site. Easy off the 401 or the 412.

In-person at your office

Annual reviews or kick-off meetings, common for clients with bigger files. Available on request.

Video

Most regular check-ins. Documents shared securely beforehand so the meeting is the conversation, not the paper handoff.

Common questions

Questions Ajax clients ask first.

I work in Toronto and have a consulting side business. What changes once I cross $30K in side income?

You have to register for HST and start charging it on your side-business invoices going forward. Your client pays the HST, you remit it. The threshold is $30K rolling 12 months, not your fiscal year. We monitor it for clients in this situation and register on time.

I have a rental property in Ajax. What can I claim?

Mortgage interest (not principal), property tax, insurance, utilities you pay, repairs, advertising, management fees and a portion of vehicle if you actively manage. Capital improvements are depreciated over years. We sort the categorization in the first meeting and run it cleanly from then on.

I run a clinic in Ajax. Do you work with medical and dental practices?

Yes. Most clinical billings are exempt from HST, but cosmetic and product sales can be taxable. Hygienist and associate classification has CRA scrutiny. The College sets share-ownership rules for your Professional Corporation. We know the patterns and handle the personal + PC tax together.

Should I incorporate my Ajax side business?

Usually once your business income comfortably exceeds what you need personally each year, because the small business deduction gives you a much lower tax rate on retained earnings. Your employment income from the day job, your spouse's income and your debt all factor in. We model both options with your real numbers.

How do you bill?

Fixed-fee, quoted up front. You'll know the cost of your work before we start. No surprise invoices, no hourly billing.
